She's No Chicken - Spring or Otherwise

Remember my post where I called my sister a little chicken. re-read about it here  Well, I take it back. This girl is no chicken.

Last night she brought her still quite ill husband home from the nursing home he has been convalescing in since his stroke. Even after an intense therapy program, he cannot assist with transfers or bear his own weight.

But he is home and he slept in his own bed last night. Way to go little sister!

  2. Your sister is a heroine! I can just imagine how happy your brother-in-law must be to sleep in his own bed.

  4. Amen! It is hard work, but a labor of love to care for a loved one at home. What a beautiful person your sister is!

My Dad took care of my Mom at their home all the way to the end. She had lost both legs to diabetes and had to be transferred from one location to another with a Hoyer Lift. After that Dad came to live with us for several years. It was only the last year of his life that we needed in-home nursing care during the hours that my daughter and I were at work, but having him here rather than in a nursing home was a blessing.

  6. You're right.. she is no chicken!
That's a huge sacrifice and it will be hard, but she is an inspiration and example of devotion, charity, and love.

  9. That is such a cute photo. I wish I could get in that position. LOL.

My thoughts are with your sister and her husband now. I know he must be happy to be going home after what he has been through.
My sister had a massive stroke 3 years ago and I remember how glad she was to be able to go home after being in the hospital and re-hab center for many months. She is still in a wheelchair, but working hard toward her recovery. I admire my brother-in-law for taking such good care of her. You are right, you can't be a chicken and be able to do that.
