Roo Is Driving

Image
My son-in-law sent me this picture of our oldest grandchild LEARNING TO DRIVE.  How on earth did I get old enough for that?  Her little brother once said as I was chauffeuring him around, "Nana, when I get big and you get little, I will drive you." He is also the one that says I can move with him to Miami when he gets grown. We are going to have a condo on the beach.

Last Christmas Pictures

Image
I am only showing pictures tonight since I am running behind on EVERYTHING.   The following pictures are from the Grandchildren's last Christmas cookie baking. My new kitchen is pretty small so I divided the grandchildren up by cousins rather than siblings. May do it again this year. I have the best Christmas cookie recipe I will share with you as well. Grandma called them tea cakes. Blake and Konstance.  They're great friends and cousins. Cousins Rachel and Sierra. They are so much alike.  Christmas Cookies 3 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 and 1/4 cup sugar 1 cup shortening 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla in large mixing bowl.  Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed ingredients. Form into 2 balls and chill in refrigerator. On floured surface roll dough out 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes. Sprinkle with granulated or colored sugar. Bake at 375 degrees F. 8-10 m...

A Thanksgiving To Remember

Image
My daughter and her family went to Texas to spend the holiday with family there. Poor Blake, my only grandson who was also born on my birthday, had to be taken to the emergency room late last night after a trampoline accident resulted in a fractured arm. Although I am sure it was scary and painful, he was very brave and did not whimper. I think Mama, Daddy, and Sissy were more emotional that Blake. The staff at the hospital fixed him up in a temporary cast until  he can be seen by an orthopedic doctor back here. He is finding it very difficult to do things without a right arm and he is wondering how he will be able to write when he gets back to school next week. He is thinking a touchscreen laptop would be appropriate. We are thankful it was only a broken arm. This is Blake's "Woody" impersonation at Hobby Lobby We had a lovely "too much food" dinner with hubby's family. As a friend said today, I hope you were all warm enough, full enough, and loved...

Future Posts

Image
I'm not posting tonight...well I'm kinda' posting but not storytelling. I want to get my site decorated for the holidays. No telling how long that will take me now that my kids live too far away to help. We moved from them - not the other way around. We did live spitting-distance from our son, daughter in law, and two beautiful grand daughters and just up the hill from our daughter, son in law, and equally beautiful grand daughter and handsome grandson. Now we have moved about ten miles away from them. We can still get to them if we need to and they visit on weekends but I just can't call them over to show me something on the computer as easily. I do want to tell you of some of my intended future posts. They include: How I got married without a proposal. How I learned to drive a car. The beans and the frog. (I promise) Home remedies that nearly killed me. One winter in Checotah, OK.  My sister ate cigarettes for Easter. Sitting on the storm cellar waiting f...

Where Are You Going Grandma?

Image
I want to show you some of the sweetest pictures I have. This picture was taken at Grandma's in 1977. Just months separated these precious babies. Grandma crocheted the afghan in what I think is the ripple stitch pattern. Grandma loved them all. This is a picture of my son and my uncle's daughter. They are only  one month apart in age. This was taken on Taylor Street before it was paved and before they built the church  across the street from Grandma's.  We have another picture of Greg and Cassie where he has his hands outstretched as if showing her how big the fish was that he caught. Her little hands  are at her face like she is enthralled. She has pretty blue eyes and looked like Tweety Bird when she was this age. This is my daughter and my nephew.  Doesn't it look like they are discussing something very important. Note the ugly tweed carpet I had in my 1970's house and the matching, equally...
