My Mermaid Painting
Remember the mermaid painting I have grieved a whole year over leaving in that little shop in Gulf Shores, Alabama?
She was still there when we went back last week. I brought her home with me this time. Her name is Anna. The fish beneath her is still scary looking.
Anna is a little thicker in the middle than I remembered but she still has the loveliest arms. I am envious of pretty-armed people.
Why do "things" bring us pleasure?
We don't often get a second chance to go back and find something we loved! So happy she was still there!
ReplyDeleteIt was meant to be!!
ReplyDeleteShe waited for you to take her home.
Anything that brings a smile to our face, and a song to our hearts is a good thing....even if it's a mermaid painting :)
I don't think it's "things" that bring us pleasure, it's the art of the "thing" or the memory attached to the "thing." This painting is so beautiful and imaginative, and I'm sure you'll be gazing at it happily for many years to come!
ReplyDeletei'm so glad she was still there for you to bring home! i hate those 'shoulda woulda couldas' that haunt you.
ReplyDeleteLucky you . Your mermaid was waiting just for you.
ReplyDeleteI've kicked myself for not grabbing something there and then in the past; sadly, I never had a chance to find whatever it was again.
That's such a nice story that she was still there waiting for you after a whole year! Its a very striking painting. She looks like a 20's film star & the colours are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been meant just for you!
ReplyDeleteDolls make me happy ~ strange for a 71 year old?
Lil red hen is right--it must have been meant just for you! I can't go back later in the day and have the thing I wanted still there.
ReplyDeleteI'm back to tell you that I nominated you for a blog award! Stop by my blog to pick it up: http://thirdfloorwithwaterview.blogspot.com/2012/08/id-like-to-thank-academy.html
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad the mermaid painting was still there, and that you brought it home with you! I know what you mean about things giving us joy. They aren't supposed to, since our hearts are to be with those Heavenly things that lie ahead for us....but we are human after all, and just can't help it! :-) I try not to feel too guilty about it. After all, we are part of the world such lovely things wouldn't be here on earth if they weren't meant to give us joy, after all!
